Our World in Data - Focused on data to help fix the world's problems. Not just climate but also Human Rights and poverty, etc. Readable articles backed up by data. Fits almost as well into the data and clicky things category TBH.
NASA Climate Change - A whole massive climate change site.
Australia State of the Environment Report - The SoE is designed to:
help shape strategy, policy and action
influence behaviours of individuals, communities and businesses
assist in assessing our actions as stewards of the Australian environment. Very pertinent.
IPCC - The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. You probably knew about that one.
Bluesky is a newish social media platform started by ex-Twitter employees to re-create only the nice bits. You can get a sttream of posts on a topic via their feeds. Bluesky Climate Change Science feed in particular in this instance. Many climate people have turned up on Bluesky as the X binfire progresses. Also look out for their starter packs.
YouTube stuff
Just Have a Think Youtube Channel of the quietly spoken Dave Borlace, discussing issues and focusses on the potential solutions that will save as many lives as possible and hopefully bring about a greater level of equality in the world.
Climate Town Very informative and amusingly presented Youtube channel of Rollie Williams (comedian with a Climate Science Degree)
TikTok
Climate and biodiversity stripes - Custom stripes, biodiversity stripes, customisable etc etc. Download them! Wow! Thank you, Uni of Reading.
Climate Reanalyzer - Whimper as you graph and map what's up with the daily sea-ice extent, SST, global temp anomalies, etc. Enjoy the visual feast, though. Lots of colours! Fantastic customisable visualisations and animations.
NASA Climate Change - A whole massive climate change site. Loads of fabulous things to explore plus explanations, driven by the data you can get from all those years of satellites, boffins, and a huge web dev budget. Not to mention graphs and downloadable data.
IPCC graphics - static, but beautifully designed to illustrate exactly what they are trying to tell us about climate change
SILO - So proud of this QLD resource to download daily climate data from 1889 to yesterday, where it exists, across the whole of Australia; temperature, rain, synthetic pan evaporation, you name it. Got a clicky map and all.
Here we focus on people and things you may not have heard about - ignoring giants such as Greta Thunberg, Bob Brown, etc.
Katherine Hayhoe - Climate scientist and Professor, Texas Tech chief scientist, author of Saving Us, very positive, on various social media
George Monbiot - British journalist, author, and environmental and political activist. He writes a regular column for The Guardian. In 2006 he published the book Heat: How to Stop the Planet Burning, so he's been at it for a while.
Peter Kalmus. Climate Scientist working for NASA at JPL, author, Extinction Rebellion activist. Peter decided to move moved from his beloved Altadena 2 years before the Jan 2025 fires because he assessed that the fire danger had become too high. He was right; his old house and neighbourhood burned down. He's probably right about a lot of other stuff too.
Edgar McGregor. Inspirational trash pickup and climate activism. This 24yo is credited with saving hundreds of people in the LA fires recently through his social media warnings, but he started (and continues) with daily trash pickup in his local reserves. He's past 2000 days of this in Jan 2025, and he started whilst at high school, continuing through environment degree and work. Pictured here with none other than Peter Kalmus
Eliot Jacobson Certainly a doomer. Actually an expert in casino games, and so really quite good at looking at the odds. Publishes a daily "moment of doom" on social media
Auke Hoekstra , Zeke Hausfather
